SWEET DIAMONDS, GLAM & SOUL LAUNCH (Thomas Sabo)
Thomas Sabo jewelry launched two new collections; Sweet Diamonds and Sterling silver GLAM&SOUL fall/winter 2012. The Media and local personalities were invited to attend an evening of cocktails and preview these 2 new collections by Faulhaber PR at Trump Tower. The room was set up so beautifully and to go with the theme it had matching cocktails and very sparkly treats.
“Sweet Diamonds signals the entry of the brand into the ‘genuine’ jewellery segment,” Edwards told Jeweller. “Developing the existing target group, this collection will also see expansion to new target groups, who are interested in ‘genuine’ materials. Sweet Diamonds is an extremely affordable luxury range and is priced from $100 to $300 and will be available from jewelers nationally late August.”
Thomas Sabo (German Brand) has always been a favorite of mine, with great pieces for men and women. Sweet diamonds is the fourth collection by The Thomas Sabo brand. This brand is well known for their sterling sliver, personalized charm bracelets and great watch collections.

Whitney Linen showroom preview
A couple weeks ago I attended Whitney Linens showroom launch. I have worked with Whitney Westwood creator of Whitney Linen on various occasions on the launch and sales of her line. Her pieces have an amazing array of colour and are really great for summer or traveling.
“The launch of Whitney Linen is inspired by European elegance and style, It is comprised of a 15-pieace women’s collection with a selection of men’s line and luxurious home décor pieces including be spoke table linens in an array of colours all detailed with the signature WL monogram finish” Said Whitney
Her pieces are really fashionable and I really love how many different colours she has used. To check her stuff out for retail or interested in buying you can email Whitney Westwood at whitney@whitneylinen.com and check out the launch of the showroom below
“Linen is an eco-friendly material free of petro-chemical components. A breathable body-cooling fabric, ideal for extreme climates, flax is the strongest natural fiber. Many cultures pass heirloom pieces down from generation to generation. For centuries linen has been a wardrobe staple embraced by European culture. “I have spent much time in Europe and have watched elegant men and women, dressed in linen, walking the cobbled streets of France and Italy. They look so chic.”, Whitney says describing her attraction to the raw fiber.”
Closing Olympics Ceremony
OMG, the closing ceremonies are always one of my favorites to watch!! This year my two favorite highlights of the event were the Spice Girls and Supermodels. The Spice Girls opened with “Spice up Your life”, and looked smoking hot and really fantastic! Every move they made and every time they sang, everyone in the audience was in awe and swaying back and forth to their tunes. Their Fashion and looks have come a long way since the 90’s and have become top notch. They are still pretty great and amazing and absolutely fun to watch when they all get together and sing away.
I think the show grabber, well for me anyways was when British Fashion and super models took center stage and ruled the runway. Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss Strutted down the cat walk in gold dresses like goddesses. All the Designers creations and Supermodels will be featured in September’s Vogue UK. Midas Touch, as what the creation was called had some of British top designers Alexander McQueen/ Vivienne Westwood, Burberry, Christopher Kane and rising up new designer Victoria Beckham. U.K. beauties Georgia May Jagger, Karen Elson, Stella Tennant, Lily Cole, Lily Donaldson, and Jourdan Dunn were amongst the spectacle show and even David Gandy wearing Paul Smith. Check out these amazing shots from the up-coming September issue of Vogue UK and enjoy.
Canadian brand Joe Fresh to open nearly 700 shops with reatiler J.C. Penney
Loblaws and its Joe Fresh brand which was created by Joe Mimram are making a big retail jump into the United States market. “It’s going to be exciting. It’s bold. It’s aggressive,” said Joe Mimran(founder of Joe Fresh), of the partnership with J.C. Penney’s. “I buy into the vision — the wider aisles, the self-checkout, the cafe, the juice bar, the seating arrangements, the room being offered to the brands and the fact that each brand can have its own voice.” Loblaws said they will roll out 700 new Joe Fresh stores next spring to be opened in J.C. Penny stores.
“We are moving from being a promotional department store toward a unique classification — the first-ever ‘specialty’ department store. It’s entirely organized by specialty shops and 100 percent staffed by specialists who are experts in products,” J.C. Penney’s chairman and CEO Ron Johnson said. Joe Fresh has quickly become, with its 300 and 12 standalone stores, one of the top ranked clothing brands in Canada.

IMG buys Toronto Fashion week
It was official announced today that Robin Kay, President of Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC) also creator and Executive Director of World MasterCard Fashion Week has sold Toronto Fashion week to IMG Canada. IMG Canada will be operating with IMG Fashion to make Fashion week better than it ever was. With their international success it will be nice to see how they will elevate this event. Robin Kay will remain president of the FDCC and continue to support Canadian designers and consultant with the event.
“Creating Fashion Week in Toronto was a career dream for me as I was able to translate my skills as a designer and retailer into a celebration of Canadian fashion that has supported so many talented people to find an audience and a global runway. In business, timing is everything, and I am confident that the time is right for IMG to take World MasterCard Fashion Week to the next level,” said Robin Kay. “I have no plans to disappear and I will remain committed to helping and nurturing Canadian designers shine on the catwalk.”
“I’ve worked with Robin for eight years on Fashion Week and it truly couldn’t have been done without her energy, vision and support,” said Joe Mimran, founder and creative director of Joe Fresh Style and chairman of the Fashion Design Council of Canada Board of Directors. “I look forward to seeing Fashion Week evolve and grow as it leverages IMG’s global infrastructure and expertise.”
I think this is just the change that World MasterCard Fashion Week needed to bump up this event more internationally since it is the second largest fashion week in North America.

Rimowa
Founded in 1898, Rimowa since then has transformed itself into classic, fashionable and modern metal cases. With their cute slogan “Every case tells a story” inside out these amazing cases are incredible at how well the compartments inside pack so well.
Desia from Brill Communications showed us at the preview one of her own Rimowa cases that she uses and showed us everything that she can pack for her trip and have space for all she needed on the trip, but the amazing part is it was her carry on piece and she was able to fit everything in so well!
All are manufactured in Europe. Rimowa became the first company to produce luggage from structural aluminum; now with that, amazing wheels that turn every way, light weight cases for the heavy packer and the case won’t break. Count me in because I’m sold and want to get these amazing new products.

HUDSON Jeans:Ten-year anniversary campaign starring Georgia May Jagger
For its 10th Anniversary, HUDSON has chosen to celebrate the essence and spirit of Cabaret in their Fall 2012 advertising campaign. Shooting the campaign in Paris, the birthplace of Cabaret, HUDSON Jeans embraces the spirit of a place to exercise individuality; where onlookers could go against the rules of society without judgment or worry. The “HUDSON CABARET” captures the brand’s mission in print and on film, and 10 years of creating a community where every citizen is a connoisseur of life, moving forward fearlessly with passion and purpose – living life to the edge.
Beginning with a teaser video in early July, the HUDSON Cabaret will feature 4 video releases showcasing four statement styles of denim to be launched with our Canadian retails partners and activation on a global scale. A print advertisement will accompany each video release and retail activation. Our national Canadian retail partner is Holt Renfrew among other high-end denim boutiques.
Following the teaser video, the first style launch will be around the LEELOO, a color blocked jean animated in a fast paced modern day dance. In August, hip-hop artist/beat-boxer TEZ will introduce the “Juliette” skinny jean, of which the ankle zippers will serve as the musical accompaniment of choice layered over his compelling beats made entirely with his mouth. For the third style, the New York electronic dream pop band, Au Revoir Simone, will help Georgia May Jagger pay a poetic tribute to the beauty of the campaign collection’s “Art Deco” styles. The “Art Deco” styles, inspired by Faberge eggs, patterned wall paper and diamond bracelets, will launch across Canada in September.
Finally HUDSON will launch the “10th Anniversary” bundle with French duet, Daphne Burki and Gunther Love, and Georgia May Jagger. Daphne is a famous TV personality in France and he’s a reigning world champion of ”Air Guitar”. They pay tribute to the 10th birthday of the brand with a comedic battle in song. Directly commemorating the brand’s tenth anniversary, the package of 4 styles will include the “Abstract Flag” printed skinny – a meld of the Union Jack and American flag paying homage to the brand’s “Born in California” but “Rooted in London” DNA. Visionaries: TOM FORD
Did you know that Tom Ford takes up to five bathes a day when he is stressed? This documentary done by the Oprah Winfrey Network is a very interesting look into the life of this visionary. He has never let anyone follow him around like this and to allow this glimpse into his fascinating life. It seems that everything Tom touches turns to gold. His perfume line, many clothing lines, collaborations, and his talents have reached all the way to Hollywood as he is also a well-respected Oscar nominee. So if you have not seen this documentary yet here it is and you can enjoy it as much as I did.

Philip Sparks for Danier Spring 2012 Men’s Accessories Collection
It was exciting news when Danier announced its partnership with Canadian designer Philip Sparks for a men’s accessories collection. A couple weeks ago I was invited by Brill Communications to preview this new collaboration. The collection is ranging from iPad cases, brief cases, weekend bags, wallets and much more.
“We started with a nostalgic idea of travel and how people once boarded airplanes and train cars with a wardrobe of carryalls, duffle bags and cases, “ says Philip. “ Then we updated that mix to include iPad cases and backpacks filled with extra pockets and compartments for contemporary travelers who expect the functionality of five bags in one.”
This is just what you would expect from Philip Sparks, it is a stylish, well detailed and multi purposed collection for the debonair gentlemen on the go. I travel a lot and was really happy to see this new collection and very excited for its introduction into Danier stores across Canada this spring because I am planning to grab a couple of these pieces for myself!

Held at the Paramount Conference and Event Centre in Woodbridge, Ontario, special guests include fitness guru Richard Simmons and disco queen Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive).
“Our goal is to conquer cancer in our lifetime,” said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation. “We hope that our Dance to Conquer Cancer fundraiser will inspire those touched by cancer, while offering people a one-of-a-kind, engaging event using the elements of dance and disco! It’s a great way to start off the New Year with some fitness and family fun and support for an important cause.”
In Canada, 40 per cent of women and 45 per cent of men will face a cancer diagnosis. One of the unique elements of the Dance to Conquer Cancer fundraiser is that participants can distribute the funds they raise to go towards a variety of different forms of high priority cancer research.
Beginning at noon an anticipated 500 participants will partake in a four-hour dance-a-thon where they will be challenged to dance 10,000 steps with moves from the 1970s and 1980s (no dancing experience necessary). So You Think You Can Dance Canada choreographer Blake McGrath will lead a dance workshop and teach participants two disco dances to perform as a group. Simmons will also be getting the gang to “Sweat to the Oldies” with his style of dancersize. A beauty bar for hair and makeup touch-ups, a shopping auction and a Tassimo Latte Bar will be available for those whose feet need a little break.
At 6 p.m. the lights go down and the disco ball starts spinning for Boogie Nights, the second portion of the fundraiser, which includes dinner, more dancing and a special live performance by Gaynor.

Absolute Mode
Absolute Vodka launched its 2011 limited-edition bottle of Absolute Mode on Dec 1st, 2011. The launch was held at Malaparte (TIFF Bell Lightbox), a museum like exhibit featuring personal accessories and unique one of kind clothing from Canadian style icons. Some of the Icons who had clothing on display were Bernadette Morra, Liza Tant, Stacy Kimel and of course Jeanne Beker who curated the evening. Jeanne’s contributions included a vintage Chanel Dress given to her by Karl Lagerfeld. She even had a cocktail named after her that evening that was called Absolute Jeanne which was quiet yummy! The most memorable piece of the evening was a dress and jacket pairing in dark blue velvet with golden beading made for Stacy Kimel by Lee McQueen, which she wore at his funeral. There was also the program from his funeral displayed at the foot of the mannequin. The event went past the 9pm ending time with amazing beats from the DJ and enjoyable cocktails which made this mixer with the Toronto Fashion Elite all the more worthwhile.

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet
This would really impact our society!
“Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! – fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights. ”
