SWEET DIAMONDS, GLAM & SOUL LAUNCH (Thomas Sabo)
Thomas Sabo jewelry launched two new collections; Sweet Diamonds and Sterling silver GLAM&SOUL fall/winter 2012. The Media and local personalities were invited to attend an evening of cocktails and preview these 2 new collections by Faulhaber PR at Trump Tower. The room was set up so beautifully and to go with the theme it had matching cocktails and very sparkly treats.
“Sweet Diamonds signals the entry of the brand into the ‘genuine’ jewellery segment,” Edwards told Jeweller. “Developing the existing target group, this collection will also see expansion to new target groups, who are interested in ‘genuine’ materials. Sweet Diamonds is an extremely affordable luxury range and is priced from $100 to $300 and will be available from jewelers nationally late August.”
Thomas Sabo (German Brand) has always been a favorite of mine, with great pieces for men and women. Sweet diamonds is the fourth collection by The Thomas Sabo brand. This brand is well known for their sterling sliver, personalized charm bracelets and great watch collections.

Canadian brand Joe Fresh to open nearly 700 shops with reatiler J.C. Penney
Loblaws and its Joe Fresh brand which was created by Joe Mimram are making a big retail jump into the United States market. “It’s going to be exciting. It’s bold. It’s aggressive,” said Joe Mimran(founder of Joe Fresh), of the partnership with J.C. Penney’s. “I buy into the vision — the wider aisles, the self-checkout, the cafe, the juice bar, the seating arrangements, the room being offered to the brands and the fact that each brand can have its own voice.” Loblaws said they will roll out 700 new Joe Fresh stores next spring to be opened in J.C. IMG buys Toronto Fashion week
It was official announced today that Robin Kay, President of Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC) also creator and Executive Director of World MasterCard Fashion Week has sold Toronto Fashion week to IMG Canada. IMG Canada will be operating with IMG Fashion to make Fashion week better than it ever was. With their international success it will be nice to see how they will elevate this event. Robin Kay will remain president of the FDCC and continue to support Canadian designers and consultant with the event.
“Creating Fashion Week in Toronto was a career dream for me as I was able to translate my skills as a designer and retailer into a celebration of Canadian fashion that has supported so many talented people to find an audience and a global runway. In business, timing is everything, and I am confident that the time is right for IMG to take World MasterCard Fashion Week to the next level,” said Robin Kay. “I have no plans to disappear and I will remain committed to helping and nurturing Canadian designers shine on the catwalk.”
“I’ve worked with Robin for eight years on Fashion Week and it truly couldn’t have been done without her energy, vision and support,” said Joe Mimran, founder and creative director of Joe Fresh Style and chairman of the Fashion Design Council of Canada Board of Directors. “I look forward to seeing Fashion Week evolve and grow as it leverages IMG’s global infrastructure and expertise.”
I think this is just the change that World MasterCard Fashion Week needed to bump up this event more internationally since it is the second largest fashion week in North America.

Lucian Matis Fall/Winter 2012
Lucian Matis opened Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion week off site at the Fairmount Royal York hotel. As guests arrived they were treated to champagne while they waited for the magical doors to open and we would all be seated. While we were taking our seats I noticed that the atmosphere was high in energy because everyone knew something amazing was about to start. The show was set up to such a large scale it reminded me of Marchesa, the first show I attended years ago. The doors opened on our left, amazing music blaring from the speakers and Lucian’s brilliant work started strutting down the catwalk. He started off with a theme that carried off in the week with Bird feathers. Other designers had tried pulling it off but not as well as Lucian!
“The lines in nature can travel, swirl and conjoin. These natural patterns are nature’s expression and purpose,” explained Matis.,”My designs have adapted and evolved through colors and shapes; the grace in movement which this planet and nature must play out from minute to minute, birth to death and, most importantly, the beauty in attraction.”
This collection by far was the best work I have seen Matis put down the runway, also better than most of Fashion week as well. All black attire dripping with amazing hand woven detail and feathers, there was something for every woman and all kinds of different occasions. Lots of great stuff that I would use for my clients for Red carpets, Balls etc.… I styled one of my clients Gabrielle Miller in Lucian Matis and brought her to the show she looked dashing and even ended up in the Toronto Sun. (See below) Lucian is a Toronto based designer international known for his amazing work after he appeared on the design show Project Runway Canada.
Ottawa Fashion Week F/W 2012 Unicef Celebrity Charity show
When I was approached by Ottawa Fashion week organizers to help put together the Celebrity charity show, which was so close to their fashion weekend I had my doubts. Being from Ottawa I knew their reputation about them being unorganized and not having the greatest reputation in the Canadian fashion industry from the past. I decided to do it anyway because it was for a great cause. After I began I realized that my concerns were correct because of all the problems I had with their team; then the show ended up being amazing and they raised money for UNICEF so I was content!
I enjoyed bringing all my friends and it was great that some amazing designers and jewelry designers agreed to help me at the last minute, It was a relief that I had so much help.
I really want to thank all my friends that walked, Leesa Butler, Gabrielle Miller, Rosey Edeh, Casie Stewart, Gail McInnes, Tre Armstrong, Erica Wark, the new people I met Solange Tuyishime, Elisabeth Manley, Leanne Lang,TL Radar, and a big shout to me good friend Cory Lee for being so amazing for walking and singing for this great cause.
Also big thank you to a MM Crystal Michelle Merizzi for coming down doing the jewelry and always supporting me with everything I do since the beginning. I also can’t forget the designers that helped me out last minute Rachel Sin, DeMOYO, Turbine,Sukhoo Sukhoo Thank you Thank you. It was such a great experience to be on the other side helping put together such a big show which gave me such a great experience and I wish Ottawa Fashion week the best as I will no longer be supporting!

Marie Saint Pierre Fall/Winter 2012
Marie Saint Pierre has been a master leading designer almost 25 years now. She is very well known for her Fashion-Forward pieces with well-crafted, detailed and unique colours. She was one of the most anticipated designers showing this season at Montreal Fashion Week. The energy was quite high as you entered the runway, that had very cold and lurry music. A girl began spinning on a machine at the beginning of the runway and then it all began.
She started it off with short film choreography, featuring a muse as a mannequin showing the divine new collection. The show was very dark with lots of black with the odd pops of colour that included this yellow dress that had a kind of black cropped jacket that was almost looked bird like. There a lot of ruffled pieces that looked like feathers. It was an impressive collection that captivated me and everyone around me during the show. “A true artist” most people would say as we were all leaving and chatting about day one.
Tavan & Mitto Fall/Winter 2012
Payam Tavan and Mike Mitto have been designing together since 1995. They both established their skills in Montreal before leaving for Europe to perfect their knowledge and skills. Payam Tavan achieved a Master’s Degree from Domus Academy in Milan and from there he worked for the Head Stylist at Gianfranco Ferre. Mike Mitto studied at Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris and then he went on to work with Chanel for a several seasons.
This Fall/Winter 2012 season Tavan & Mitto collaborated with Elle Quebec. The Collection had a very sixties feel, with lots of Volume, Fur and Sequins. Lots of pastel colours combined with a hint of black and white with a slice of edge. This was my first time seeing and learning about Tavan & Mitto and it was well worth the travel to Montreal to see this Beautiful collection.

Absolute Mode
Absolute Vodka launched its 2011 limited-edition bottle of Absolute Mode on Dec 1st, 2011. The launch was held at Malaparte (TIFF Bell Lightbox), a museum like exhibit featuring personal accessories and unique one of kind clothing from Canadian style icons. Some of the Icons who had clothing on display were Bernadette Morra, Liza Tant, Stacy Kimel and of course Jeanne Beker who curated the evening. Jeanne’s contributions included a vintage Chanel Dress given to her by Karl Lagerfeld. She even had a cocktail named after her that evening that was called Absolute Jeanne which was quiet yummy! The most memorable piece of the evening was a dress and jacket pairing in dark blue velvet with golden beading made for Stacy Kimel by Lee McQueen, which she wore at his funeral. There was also the program from his funeral displayed at the foot of the mannequin. The event went past the 9pm ending time with amazing beats from the DJ and enjoyable cocktails which made this mixer with the Toronto Fashion Elite all the more worthwhile.

Grace Kelly Exhibit at the Bell Light box
“My father had a very simple view of life: you don’t get anything for nothing. Everything has to be earned, through work, persistence and honesty. My father also had a deep charm, the gift of winning our trust. He was the kind of man with whom many people dream of spending an evening.”
– Grace Kelly
Grace Kelly was born November 12, 1929 and became one of Americas leading actresses turned princess. She won an Academy Award for her outstanding performance in ‘The Country Girl”. Grace Kelly went on to marry Rainier III, Prince of Monaco in April 1956 and became Princess of Monaco but was most commonly known as Princess Grace. Sadly she died in September 14, 1982 after she lost control of her car when she suffered a stroke. Her daughter, who was in the car, survived the accident but we lost Princess Grace. I have always been fascinated by Grace Kelly’s life and have read, and watched everything I could about her and one my favourite movies has to be ‘To Catch a Thief”. So when I heard the Grace Kelly Exhibit was coming to the TIFF Bell Lightbox I was tickled pink with happiness. I had to work the night of the launch and sadly missed meeting Prince Albert. I have since seen the exhibit and truly enjoyed every minute of it. So make sure to get down there to see this glorious exhibit which will be there until January 4th.
“I am basically a feminist. I think that women can do anything they decide to do.”
– Grace Kelly
“The thing that made her stand out is what we call style.”
- McCall’s magazine, 1955
“I have always been close to flowers… to have complete satisfaction from flowers you must have time to spend with them. Bonds must be forged between you and them. I talk to them and they talk to me.”
– Grace Kelly
I’m in love with this Dior Commercial with Marilyn Monroe,Marlene Dietrich , Grace Kelly and Charlize Theron i really needed to share!
